THE VPI DIARY

06/10/14

Our 24th anniversary today. Wow I looked a lot younger 24 years ago, Dave hasn't aged at all!

It seems impossible, but having our son Tom just finishing his first year in college and our son Guy now a senior in high school tells me it is possible!

This has been a few crazy weeks! First finally getting the next printing of "The Invisible Ark" done, then Dave was first at Snake Days in west Texas, and onto the "Pit Viper Symposium" in Tulsa, while the boys were really having a blast at the X games in Austin!

06/02/14 VPI Pastel Fire Axanthic Python regius

In ball pythons, the VPI Axanthic morph continues to offer up some incredible combinations and this is one of my favorites!

This awesome female, what I believe to be the first of this combination was produced by Wes Harris.

The contrast and outlines on the blotches of this snake are outstanding!

Now I'm going to add the VPI Sugar Axanthic to make VPI Pastel Fire Axanthic Sugar and we are still at

VPI Axanthics day one!!!!!

05/01/14 VPI SNOW AND VPI SNOWGLOW BOAS

Sometimes projects take a long time. Let me rewrite that! Sometimes I take a long time to do projects! This is why people like to get snakes from us, because they have a really good shot at making the snake we worked so hard to make before we do!! But we are ok with that, and of course we are always thrilled for the people who support us and believe that the project we are proposing is worth sticking their necks out for and in the end they will be really happy they took the chance and got involved!

04/30/14 VPI Boas 2014

Approximately 17 years ago in 1997, we started working on a project here at VPI with one baby female boa and her siblings.

04/09/14 The Invisible Ark: In Defense of Captivity by David and Tracy Barker is released today!

The last entry I made here was Christmas day December 25, 2013. That was 105 days ago.

A lot has happened in that time.

We are very excited to announce the publication of our new book!

The Invisible Ark: In Defense of Captivity by David and Tracy Barker is released today, 9 April 2014.

This is a small paperback book that explains the importance of captivity in this modern world and promotes the work of the keepers of all animals and plants.

If you would like to get a copy, we are ready to ship!

12/25/13 MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL! FROM DAVE AND TRACY/VPI

This year has been a blur! But I think the past 10 years have been a blur!

As I say very frequently to anyone who will listen, "we aren't getting any younger!"

Having said that it appears that work amount and increasing age do not have an inverse relationship as I was led to believe!

These two things seem to be going up at the same rate faster and faster!

But...we enjoy our work, probably more now than ever!

We have great projects going on and we love every one of them!

We are so grateful to the people who have helped us.

12/09/13 VPI ZZ AND SUPER ZZ BLOOD PYTHON PYTHON BRONGERSMAI UPDATE 2013

We have some really interesting Blood python projects coming up for the future and this is a neat one. As with all of our projects, it takes some time to get a handle on what exactly is going on and how the morph expresses itself phenotypically and what the actual genotype is.

11/28/13 HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!

It is really really cold here! 31F and as anyone who knows me knows I am more the 81F type!

We had a gorgeous sunrise this morning on this clear crisp Thanksgiving day and I was up to see it since my usual wake up time is about 4:00 am. I go to zzz early and wake up early, and at this point I have had two cups of coffee and decided that it has been way too long since I have written in my blog!

Every day seems to be filled with so many things that I have been unable to stop and write about them all!

10/06/13 LESSER CLOWN BALL PYTHONS INTERESTING LOOK

VPI started the "Clown" Ball project and through the years we have been very proud to see many individuals be enormously successful with this morph creating new combinations all along the way!

After all these years it appears that this morph is more popular than ever!

VPI reconnected with this morph on several new projects and made a lot of progress this year!

Our male clown poss het lavender, turned out to be a 100% het and in a project with Wes Harris, we have now landed several Lavender 100% het clowns.
