Red and White Amazon Tree Boa

This is Snow White, a CBB '09 Amazon Tree Boa, Corallus hortulanus I produced from breeding a Red/White male x Patternless Red female. Both Sire and Dam were virgins prior to this breeding. Parturition occurred on October 9, 2009 in which 5 live babies were born, no stills and no slugs. This is fairly common for Amazon Tree Boas to have such a small litter first time around since they don't have very large litters anyway. I was more than happy with the results and especially happy with the progression of the juveniles now almost a year old. 2 of the babies were born about as red as you can get, (fire engine red) with eyes to match and white bands evenly spaced along their bodies. The other 2 amazons were born a reddish orange with a very faint pattern that disappeared rather quickly. These two ended up turning solid red like their mother one with gold eyes and one with red. The 5th and last baby was a really outstanding wicked looking red eyed garden amazon. Although I really don't like calling it a garden because I have never seen another Amazon that looks like this snake both color and pattern. But to make it easy for explanation I will call it a garden. Both of the red and white banded babies have changed dramatically since they were born. The one in the picture has added more white than its sib who still has more of a banded look. Now both have had some black flecking to really add depth to their color scheme and I am just beside myself with the turn out of the whole litter. I did a repeat pairing this year and the female is expected to drop on Halloween. I think she'll have at least double the babies if all goes well, I definitely have my fingers crossed. I have talked or typed way to much so I will give the fingers a rest and post the pic already. Hope you enjoy it, thanks for looking! Charles Koutris
