Egg Tooth

Remarks:
This is a good view of the very small egg tooth of a hatching blood python. It's that little spike that sticks straight out from end of the snout, coming out of the tongue groove on the upper jaw. We have observed that each genus of python has a uniquely shaped egg tooth. Most baby pythons lose the egg tooth within hours of leaving the shell. Once in a while, if you pay very close attention, you will find that some babies will keep the tooth for a day or two.
